A Lawyer and his Money
A tough old lawyer diagnosed with a terminal illness was determined to disprove the adage, “You can’t take it with you.” So that he could take at least some of his money with him when he died, he withdrew a large number of bills and stuffed two pillowcases with them, placing them above his bed in the attic so that, as he died, he could reach out and grab them on his way to Heaven.
The time came, and he passed away. The money was of course forgotten in the hubbub of getting him prepared for his funeral, and it was several months later that his widow came across the two forgotten pillowcases in the attic while cleaning.
“Silly old fool,” she muttered. “I knew he should have put them in the basement!”
