A Look At The New Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy In Hollywood Studios

This year marks the 30 year anniversary for Hollywood Studios, Florida and Disney is celebrating big by adding lots of new attractions. Your family will love the latest, Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy!

Thanks to Disney for hosting my family for a day at Hollywood Studios so we could check out this awesome new attraction!

Things are really poppin’ over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and there are no signs of it slowing down! Last year we had a blast celebrating the opening of Toy Story Land and it was amazing! If you haven’t been, you really should check it out!

Of course, everybody knows about the epic opening of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge this fall too (though my youngest daughter is a little concerned about where Chewbacca will be…he’s our first stop whenever we visit Hollywood Studios!)

However, since Disney loves to go above and beyond, I mean to infinity and beyond, they decided two new lands just weren’t enough. Now they’ve surprised us with yet another attraction, one that will make Cars fans very happy! Lightning McQueens Racing Academy opened March 31st, just in time for some summer fun!

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy

In this super cute indoor show, Lightning McQueen appears live on stage to share all his best racing tips with the “rookies” (that’s us!). Of course, he’ll need his high-tech simulator to do that and things don’t always go according to plan.

Luckily, he’s got plenty of friends to help him through, including Mater, Cruz Ramirez and the rest of his buddies! Watch out for Chick though…I always feel like he can’t be trusted, don’t you?

Of course, it all works out in the end and you’ll know everything you need to know about being a championship racer! It’s a fun show and Keira, my 7 year old, loved it so much that she wanted to go back again later that day!

This is the perfect attraction for when those afternoon summer showers roll in, the sun is beating down and you need a little air conditioning or if you just need to rest your feet for a bit.

Meet Cruz Ramirez

That’s not all there is to this attraction though! Once you go back outside, head over to get you picture taken with Cruz Ramirez. We always get excited when there’s a new character to take pictures with!

While we sometimes splurge for a photopass (well worth the money for family vacations), I LOVE that the Disney photographers will take a picture with your camera or cell phone. I’ve been to a lot of other theme parks and most of them don’t do it. Just another reason why Disney’s always my favorite!!!

DJ’s Ready! Set! Party Time!

DJ’s Ready! Set! Party Time! takes place just outside the attraction in the Cars Courtyard. The DJ plays party music while Lightning McQueen’s Pit Crew shows off their dance moves.

The kids loved joining in the fun and danced along, played games and even formed a conga line at one point (Keira’s favorite).

There’s nothing more fun than watching little kids dance and these kids were having a blast.

You’ll find Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy next to Aerosmith’s Rockin’ Roller Coaster (or just head to the Tower Of Terror and take a left).

Coming Soon To Hollywood Studios

Wondering what’s next for Hollywood Studios? Here are a few of the things we have to look forward to…

The Wonderful World Of Animation Nighttime Show debuts in May to coincide with their ongoing 30th anniversary celebration. Disney will use their state-of-the-art technology to take us on a magical tour through 90 years of animation featuring favorite characters from Sleeping Beauty to Coco (coming in May 2019)

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railroad has taken the place of The Great Movie Ride and the transformation sounds pretty awesome! Disney imagineers have created a ride where two dimensional cartoons are now real world experiences and we’re transported into a world of wacky Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts. It’s about time Mickey Mouse had his own attraction…after all, he’s the one that started it all, right? (coming in May 2019)

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is going to be so epic that you may just want to get in line right now! We’re so excited that I even talked my hubby into getting these awesome shirts (considering that he’s a Star Wars fan too, I didn’t have to twist his arm too hard). This is going to be the hottest event in town so mark your calendars for August 29th. Find out all the details about Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge here!

Disney’s Skyliner debuts soon and while not technically an attraction, it might as well be! Stay at certain Disney hotels and you’ll be able to connect to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot from high above the trees. Instead of looking at cars and buses, you’ll have a beautiful view on your way to the parks instead. I think we might have to book a Disney hotel just so we can try these out! (coming in Fall 2019)
