It’s that time of year! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and it’s time to make those Valentine’s boxes for school. Last year I wanted to make a Unicorn Valentine’s Box but ran out of time. I made a Sponge Bob Valentine Box and the cutest ever Heart Shaped Valentine Box and several others. This year the plan was to make my Unicorn Valentine Box first, so that wouldn’t happen again!

Here’s what you’ll need:

*You only need a small piece so scraps from previous projects may work too

Unicorn Valentine Box

I found these Welch’s Fruit Snack Boxes were the perfect size for this Valentine’s Box.

Start by covering your box with the pink foam sheets.

Use a razer to cut a hole in the back for the cards (this is best done by mom or dad).

Take some of the leftover pink foam and the white foam and cut pieces for ears.

Glue them together using the hot glue.

Trace a circle on the back of the gold glitter card stock. You can do it freehand but I like to find something to trace. I used a glass bowl for this one.

You’ll only need half the circle so to make it easy, I just cut out the whole circle, then cut it in half (save the other half though because it might come in handy for another craft…maybe a Unicorn Pumpkin)

Roll the half circle into a cone shape and hot glue it in place.

Hot glue the horn, then the ears, to the top of the box.

Don’t forget to cut the hole in the back of the box. I always mean to do this first but usually remember about halfway through the project!

Next it was time for my favorite part! I had a ton of fake flowers that I’d collected from the dollar stores. I might have gone a little overboard!

Little by little I glued them to the box to form the unicorn’s mane. I started at the top…

then glued them down the side.

Next, cut out some eyes. You’ll need two white circles, two slightly smaller blue circles and two black circles. I used a small glass, a shot glass and a quarter as tracers (I have no faith in my ability to draw a perfect circle without help!) I also cut out two small pieces for a “reflection”.

For the snout, I cut out a piece of pink foam and used some heart-shaped foam stickers that I happened to have on hand. You can cut out your own if you don’t have stickers. I started with pink but ended up using red stickers.

Glue the eyes together, then the snout, and glue them to the front of the box.

When I was positioning the blue of the eyes, it hung over the sides of the white a little. I positioned the pieces how they looked best, glued, then turned it over and trimmed off the extra (so the blue ended up with a slightly oval shape). This is a lot easier than trying to cut the perfect shape before gluing.

Now you have a super cute Unicorn Valentine Box for Valentine’s Day!

If you really want to make it easy, you can forget the foam in front and make a face like the one I made on my Unicorn Pumpkin. I love that look too but just wanted to try something different this time.
