Shopping for back to school? From bookbags and bandaids to lunchbox notes and squishy scissors, check out our favorite back to school supplies for 2019!
I’ve always found it funny that my girls never really want to go back to school but they love shopping for back to school supplies. I guess I can’t be too surprised…I was the same way when I was a kid. We’ve been working hard to get everything checked off our supply lists but this year we’ve found a few extra cool supplies to throw into our backpacks. Check out some of our favorites!
Back To School Supplies For 2019
Justice Backpack
One of the most important items on our back to school shopping list is always the backpack. It has to be, functional but also cool! That’s why my 7 year old wanted a Justice backpack again this year. Justice backpacks for girls are always so cute and this time Keira went with a Mermaid Flip Sequin Backpack.
She’s always had a thing for flip sequins and what little girl wouldn’t want this cute mermaid scale design. Plus, it’s got plenty of pockets so she has a spot for everything!
Keira may love the design but my favorite thing about these backpacks is how well they hold up. The one we bought last year is still in great shape and could probably last through this year too. However, kid rules say that you can’t have the same backpack two years in a row so now we’re using that one as her travel bag. Because Justice backpacks have padded straps to cushion her shoulders, Keira can pack in as much as she wants and still be comfortable.
There’s even a cute pompom charm and a special loop to hold all her favorite keychains. This adorable backpack is right up her alley and she’s excited to start the school year in style!
Merci Suarez Changes Gears from Candlewick Press
I’ll admit, we kind of fell out of the habit of bedtime stories over the summer. Life just got busy and we were either traveling, sleeping over at Grandma’s or just staying up too late playing games. Now that we’re getting back into a routine, it’s time to start reading together again.
We’re starting with Merci Suarez Changes Gears, a story about a young girl growing up in an multigenerational family. Having a multicultural identity and changing family dynamics isn’t always easy. The book focuses on family relationships and how Merci faces changes and challenges with humor and grace.
This story even won the 2019 Newbery Medal, a medal given out every year to an author whose contributions for children truly stand out. Because Merci is Hispanic, the book features Spanish words naturally throughout so maybe Keira will even learn some Spanish as well. Since it’s geared towards older kids, it might be a good story for her big sis to read to her at bedtime.
If you want to check out this book for yourself, use the promo code CANDLEWICK to save 25% on candlewick.com (U.S. purchases only).
First Aid Kit & More From Me4Kidz
Me4Kidz is all about helping to keep our little ones healthy as they start the school year…
Dogs may be a man’s best friend but antibacterial wipes are a moms best friend! These Little Buddy Antibacterial Wipes come 32 to a pack and are great for cleaning hands and dirty faces when we’re out and about or just taking care of the occasional boo-boo. They smell good and don’t have the strong odor of other wipes. Plus, they kill 99% of germs, sting-free.
With all the bumps and bruises my girls get, we can’t live without a first aid kit. This Medibuddy First Aid Kit is a great size to take on the go. With over 50 items, we’re prepared for anything. It includes latex free bandages, gauze pads, sting free antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointments, kid-friendly fun stickers and a reusable case to carry it all in.
What is it about the magic of ice packs? They always make my girls feel better when they get hurt (whether it’s a real injury or the kind that kids love to play up to get a little extra TLC). The Cool It Buddy reusable cold packs are non-toxic and come two to a pack with cute, kid friendly designs.
All these Me4Kidz products are the perfect size for safety on the go and fit easily in my purse, the glove box and even Keira’s bookbag.
Freezable Lunch Bags & Bento Containers
Another one of our essential back to school supplies is a lunch box and I’m wondering why it took me so long to discover freezable lunch bags! PackIt makes both freezable lunch bags and freezable snack bags that go straight in the freezer, making it so that you never need ice packs again. It keeps food chilled, just like a tiny fridge on the go.
The larger lunch bag is just the right size for the Mod Lunch Box. This customizable Bento container has separate compartments so that Keira can customize her lunch just how she likes it. The dividers are leak resistant, letting us avoid any dreaded “food touching” incidents and doing away with having to use multiple containers.
Lunch Notes
While we’re on the subject of lunch bags, let’s talk about lunch notes too. My girls LOVE when I surprise them with lunchbox notes and now MyWish4U makes it easy. MyWish4U Lunch Notes come with 101 colorful and unique notes. They’re also blank on the back in case you want to add your own special message. Just tear one off and place it in your child’s lunchbox. Then when they see it mid-day, they’ll know you’re thinking of them.
Last year my girls would always mention their notes as soon as they get home so I know those little surprises meant a lot to them. Sometimes it’s the little things that make them happiest!
These notes have jokes, riddles and even wacky facts to keep kids entertained and there are so many that even Grandma and grandpa can sneak a note in when they come to visit. Head to Target to find MyWish4U Lunch Notes through September for just $4.99.
Kids Jellies Pointed Scissors
You can’t start a new school year without scissors for crafts and other projects and Keira loves these Westcott Jellies! They’re the only scissors with a squishy, gel-grip for kids. She likes them because they feel cool but they also give her more control and comfort when she’s cutting.
These cool school supplies are just one way that Westcott is showing their commitment to education and love of inspiring creativity at home and in the classroom. I have a feeling once her friends see these, they’re all going to want a pair.
MAGLITE Solitaire LED & Mini Maglite Pro LED
What kid doesn’t love having their own flashlight? For them it’s fun but you also never know when it’ll come in handy!
The Maglite Solitaire Keychain Flashlight might be small but it packs a big punch. It’s beam can reach 50 yards and it’ll run for almost two hours non-stop on just one AAA battery. There are several colors to choose from so your child can pick a favorite.
The Mini Maglite Pro LED Flashlight is more powerful and once you add two AA batteries, you’ll get a beam that can travel for almost two football fields. The compact design makes it the perfect size for pockets or purses and it also comes in several different colors.
If you shop by September 15, 2019, you can take 15% off with the code MAGBB15. (some restrictions apply).
Now that we’ve got all of our back to school supplies, Keira is one happy girl. The only thing left to do is get haircuts and print our First Day Of School signs, then the girls are officially ready to go. I’m really excited to see what the new year has in store for both my girls!
Are you ready for back to school? What do you have left to do?
